Alcohol Awareness Month-How to be a mindful drinker?

Drinking responsibly becomes one of the most important aspects to take care of as an individual. April is officially the Alcohol Awareness month, so we thought this would be a great time to talk about ensuring that you are drinking responsibly.

It is often misunderstood that the only people who have to be aware of their alcohol intake are the people who have previously struggled with addiction or the likes of them. This is entirely untrue as drinking responsibly simply means you are aware of your limits and consuming accordingly. When it comes to drinking, the end goal is to ensure that you have a good time, without harming any part of your routine, or harming your body and its functions on any level. Drinking responsibly will ensure that you remain healthy and can also cherish your alcohol consumption.

The first step of being a mindful drinker is to start by ensuring that you are keeping track of your alcohol intake - this includes just the basic stuff like that amount of drinks you had, the duration or the intervals you had it in, the people you drank it with and the kind of spirits you had. It is also important to be aware of which spirits have what kind of effects on you. Sometimes your body might not accept certain drinks and some ingredients in them. Based on your sex, weight and the speed of consumption, you can also calculate your blood alcohol level and consume alcohol in a way that does not exceed the limit.

The most important aspect to keep in mind when you are consuming alcohol, is ensuring your comfort level. While pushing your limits might be your motto for a lot of things in your life, when it comes to alcohol this absolutely should not be your go-to expression! Make sure that you know your limits, and are sticking to it. Always remember that you do not have to drink a single drink if you do not feel the need to.

Some guidelines that will help you in drinking responsibly:

-    Have a designated driver for your nights of drinking
-    Do not drink in an empty stomach - at least have a small snack before
-    If you take medicines (even if they are not prescription based), ensure you consult a doctor if it is okay to consume alcohol
-    Try not to drink if you have not gotten agood amount of sleep
-    Stay hydrated while you are drinking
-    Know the alcohol that you are having
